The advantage of using built wood flooring is that it may be put to use right over concrete (since you do not need to nail it during installation), or below grade (because moisture doesn't disturb it as much as solid wood). The layers of plywood under the veneer are laid cross-ways, decreasing the wood's potential to expand and contract over the grains when there's a difference in moisture levels.
